Experience
Since 2016, I have been teaching as a qualified Japanese teacher. I have taught students of all levels, from beginner to advanced, with a variety of needs, including JLPT preparation and conversation practice. My strength lies in analyzing your weaknesses and providing targeted practice, as well as offering clear and logical explanations of vocabulary and grammar to help you gain a deep understanding. I also help you develop a cultural understanding by comparing the differences between Japanese and Western cultures, and by exploring both the Japanese language and culture. Additionally, I create a relaxed and friendly environment, where lessons are safe and easy to approach, allowing you to feel comfortable while speaking.
I started my teaching career as a Japanese teacher in Ballarat. After that, I returned to Tokyo, and following the pandemic, I began teaching online. I have had students from all over the world, but I realised that I wanted to offer more learning opportunities to people living here and contribute to the local community in Australia. That's when I decided to start ”MiCo Japanese”, my own Japanese lessons!
2024–Current: Teaching Japanese face-to-face in Ballarat.
2020–2023: Teaching Japanese online, including for Mercari (a major Japanese company).
2018–2020: Teaching Japanese at Cato Japanese Language School in Tokyo.
2017: Teaching Japanese at JIC Language School in Melbourne.
2016: Teaching Japanese as an assistant teacher at Ballarat Clarendon College.

Hello, my name is Miki. Thank you for visiting my website, and it's a pleasure to meet you!
I am a qualified Japanese teacher and have been teaching Japanese since 2016. I have taught many students from various countries and backgrounds, both in Australia and Tokyo, including performers, engineers, professional athletes, lawyers, expats, and more.
I love helping students achieve their goals and love to see them broaden their horizons by learning a new language and culture. It's incredibly rewarding to witness them discover a whole new world—that's what I'm truly passionate about!
I studied in New Zealand as an exchange student and have been living in Australia for the past six years. I understand that learning a new language can be challenging, but I aim to create a classroom environment where everyone feels safe, relaxed, and engaged. I will do my best to support each student in achieving their goals and provide you with the best learning experience possible.
Outside of the classroom, I’m a mum to my daughter and enjoy spending time with her! I love coffee and visiting cafes. I brew coffee at home every day and also work as a barista at a cafe!
